I have to admit that I am in the doldrums that News Corp. seems set to win the Wall Street Journal. As a long time subscriber of wsj.com and an admirer of the paper it’s sad to know that we’ll soon be seeing the vitriol of the print equivalents of O’Reilly and Cavuto on the pages of this venerable paper.
There is an angel that sits on my shoulder that says I shouldn’t be so cynical… Murdoch is promising editorial independence and whatnot. The truth is that I expect once the hubub from the acquisition has died down we’ll being to see the slow transition. As Marge Simpson (yes, I know that the show is on Fox) said, “Fox turned into a hard-core porn network so gradually, I didn’t even notice!”
While I’m clearly a fan of some of the programming on the Fox network (hence the avatar and the abundant Simpsons quotes), the journalistic integrity of Fox News is just such a joke. Actually, the journalistic integrity of all of the conglomerate-owned news outlets is highly questionable on a good day. It’s a sad, sad day.
