This is one of those periodic messages in which I offer my apologies for having not posted in quite a while. The difference in this message is that Im also going to basically sign off for a long vacation. The odds are very high that I wont be able to make too many posts for the next week and a half at least.

On Monday evening I presented Getting the Most from the Internet and Deep Web to the New York City chapter of the Society of Competitive Intelligence Professionals. This follows a presentation on the same topic to the Richmond, Virginia chapter a week and a half earlier. Both audiences were both educated and engaging. I had a great time.

Last night Barry and I saw U2 perform at the MCI Center in Washington, DC. We had seen them on their Elevation tour in 2001, four years earlier to the day, to be exact. The previous show was at the Baltimore Arena, a somewhat more intimate venue for a concert. At the time we were getting our house ready to move in to, and it was not much more than a month after 9/11, and the shock and hurt were still very raw. With everything going on in our lives at that time the U2 concert delivered a very energetic catharsis. When the guitar riff that begins Where the Streets Have No Name began to play I knew I was living in a perfect moment. The bar had been set pretty high for U2. As amazing as last night was, I have to say that I never did have one of those perfect moment feelings. I dont think thats the fault of U2. From a musical perspective the show was stellar, and I particularly enjoyed Vertigo.

Tonight its off to London and Amsterdam for an overdue holiday. Its funny that a little over a year after having left BT I take my first European vacation to two cities I had traveled to many times for work when I was with the company. I guess you could call it being homesick in a way. I probably will not have too many opportunities to blog while Im away, but if I find time Ill give some updates. I will likely have to break down and set up a flickr account when I come back so I can share some pictures.
