According to the Washington Post the Virginia Department of Transportation is considering plans to raise tolls on the Dulles Toll Road. The increase in toll costs would be to raise funds to pay Virginia’s portion of an extension of the Washington Metro station to Dulles Airport.
As a frequent user of the road and also a resident of a community by Dulles I say bring it on! This part of the Washington metro area desperately needs transportation alternatives. Raise my tolls, tax my fuel, sell me cookies… whatever… just get that damn extension built, and soon. Traffic in the Washington area is so bad that, living where I live, there are jobs I cannot even consider or any number of interesting events I’m completely unable to attend based on their location. Having a rail alternative would go a long way to making life for those of us in the Dulles Corridor much easier. I, for one, am very happy to pay for that.
