OK, obviously some people had a worse commute today than I.
The major accident covered in the short Post bit resulted in the closing of all but one lane of the George Washington Parkway. For those unfamiliar, the GW Parkway is a gorgeous, scenic roadway that runs along the Virginia side of the Potomac River. The downside of its location is that it has become a favored route for commuters who insist on driving way too fast for the infrastructure: lots of curves, little to no shoulder, poor signage for those unfamiliar and very limited merge areas. Ive never really felt comfortable going over 50 MPH on the road, and I often get passed like Im driving in reverse. Some people really need to slow down and enjoy that scenery. This is the second time in as many years as a major accident occurred on the parkway.
While I dont take the parkway, the shockwaves of this accident could definitely be felt. The majority of my commute is done on the Dulles Toll Road, which was a parking lot the entire length of my journey today.
That sounds like one serious accident if it effected Dulles Toll Road which are usually pretty clear for me when I am in DC. – Steve
Guaranteed, while it may have been your WORST.COMMUTE.EVER–at least your STILL ALIVE.
Indeed hearing about the accident made me glad to be alive and really does put the commute into context. I would also hope that the enormity of the accident would encourage people to slow down and enjoy the view on the Parkway insetad of speeding like they do.
