OK, I’m stealing shamelessley from Slashdot now, but I really liked this comic strip about the guys who managed to get an unamplified WiFi signal sent and received accross 55.1 miles. That’s more than twice the distance of a marathon!
The conditions and the equipment weren’t exactly standard, but this is very cool nevertheless. As someone who grew up in the middle of nowhere where they’ll never, ever have cable and there’s insufficient density to justify DSL I like to see things like this. I also admit that I don’t know anywhere near as much about the potential of WiMax as I should. The hype just seemed too premature on that technology that I’ve bookmarked it and decided I’ll learn more about it later.
Oh, and how great is the comic strip as a method of condensed story-telling?
